Dobrodruh (Adventurer)

Visual concept for music video release

Problem

The primary role of the visual style was to enhance and support the release of the first official music video for the project Till I Get Home, specifically for the track "Dobrodruh". This style should establish a cohesive visual language that seamlessly connects the music, the video content, and the project’s digital presence across social media platforms.

This project was supported by the Slovak Arts Council (Fond na podporu umenia) and the crowdfunding platform StartLab.

Solution

I grounded the design concept in the atmosphere and visual language of the video itself, aiming to express the track’s melancholic and introspective tone through carefully curated aesthetic decisions.

For the color palette, I drew inspiration from the album Hory (from which the track originates), but shifted the emphasis by promoting pastel orange and magenta to primary roles, while using gray as a secondary accent. I worked with soft gradient transitions enriched by analog-inspired textures to evoke the track’s nostalgic and emotional character. Additionally, I incorporated a still frame of the Betta fish (Betta splendens) featured in the video as a central visual motif, establishing a more organic and analog — and perhaps ultimately personal — connection between the style and the video content.
